Got something you’d like to say? A topic you’re super passionate about or an experience you want to share? Got a webcam or a camcorder? Get involved, be a bit pesky, make a guest video, and have your voice heard!
We want our channel to be a platform for a true variety of feminist voices and discussions, which is something we simply can’t do when only five people are speaking. That’s where you come in! Every weekend we open up the channel to guest videos submitted by our subscribers.
Tempted? Read on to find out how you could be a Pesky Guest Vlogger…
The Basics
Guest videos can be cover any topic relating to feminism, and can be submitted by anyone regardless of gender. Videos should aim for around 4-6 minutes in length, we can be somewhat flexible with this, but anything approaching 10 minutes will need to be edited down.
When your video is ready please submit it to thosepeskydames@gmail.com. If you find your file is too large to email (quite a common problem!) we recommend using a file transfer service like wetransfer or uploading your file to a shareable cloud space like Dropbox. When submitting your video please include your preferred title and description, including any links you mention in the video and anywhere you’d like people to find you e.g. your YouTube, blog or Twitter, and any tags you would like us to use.
Guest videos will be held in a queue and published each weekend in the order that they were received. We cannot guarantee that your video will be published the same week it is submitted, so if that’s important to you (i.e. if you’re responding to a specific point made in one of that week’s videos) we recommend posting as a response video instead.
Please be aware that all guest videos are moderated on a comments by approval only basis. This is done to protect those submitting videos and to maintain a safe space for discussion. For more information please see our comment policy.
All guest videos are subject to our review and we reserve the right to refuse to upload any video at our discretion. If this happens though we will usually try to contact you to explain why, and if possible to work around the problem.
As a guest vlogger you retain the creative rights to your video and are free to upload it elsewhere or request that we remove the video from our channel at any time.
FAQ
Q. Do I need to tell you about the topic I want to discuss before submitting my video?
A. Strictly speaking no, but it’s nice for us to know what to expect from the guest videos we have coming in. Additionally, we don’t want you to go to the trouble of making a video only to find the topic or discussion isn’t suitable for the channel. So if you’re planning on making a guest video it’s probably a good idea to let us know first.
Q. The ‘Dames have already covered the topic I want to discuss, can I still make a guest video about it?
A. Yes, guest videos can be on any topic relating to feminism.
Q. You haven’t covered the topic I want to discuss yet, can I still make a guest video about it now?
A. Yes, guest videos can be on any topic relating to feminism.
Q. Do I have to talk about the same topic covered during the week/wait for the week my topic is discussed to submit a guest video.
A. No, guest videos can be on any topic relating to feminism and do not need to reflect that week’s theme. Additionally, we cannot guarantee that your video will be uploaded the same week it is submitted, so waiting for the week your topic comes up could prove rather pointless.
Q. I want to make a guest video but I’m not sure what to talk about.
A. We make weekly topic announcements to help provide inspiration to any potential guest vloggers, so make sure you’re following us on Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook to catch those announcements each Sunday. However we must again state that we cannot guarantee that your video will be uploaded the same week it is submitted.
Q. I know what I want to say but I’ve never made a guest video before/I’m not sure what to do.
A. Don’t worry, we’re still pretty new at this vlogging malarky ourselves. The best way to learn something is to just do it, and then keep doing it, until you get better. We’ve also found the following quite useful guides to get you started:
- YouTube Creator’s Playbook (and other resources)
- Video: How to Vlog in 3 Minutes - Alex Day (nerimon)
- Video: How to Vlog: From the Vlogbrothers - Hank Green (vlogbrothers)
If you’re feeling really stuck though please feel free to get in touch to discuss your proposed topic, we might be able to help you frame the discussion you want your video to cover.
Q. Why do I have to keep my video so short? Everything I have to say is really important!
A. We’re sure it is, but unfortunately those are our rules. As to why, we suggest taking a look at the average length of most YouTube videos. Attention spans for online video are typically quite short, and considering we are uploading between 5-7 videos each week it is important that those videos are relatively easy for our subscribers to digest.
Q. I can’t edit my video down/I don’t know what to cut out.
A. We totally understand that feeling, we often have it ourselves, which is why we’re sometimes over the 6 minute mark. If you’re struggling to bring your video within the time limit let us know and we’ll discuss possible options for helping you out. Those could include:
- Allowing us to create our own edited version of your video. We would of course let you see the final result before uploading.
- Uploading a shorter version of the video to Those Pesky Dames, with a link out to the full version on your own channel.
- Breaking the video down into sub-topics or parts and submitting them as multiple separate guest videos.
And that’s it!
Any further questions or anything you think we’ve missed please feel free to get in touch.
We look forward to receiving all of your awesome guest videos!
Lots Pesky love,
The Dames <3
