It’s TOPIC ANNOUNCEMENT time!
THIS WEEK: Feminism and ableism
- Next week sees the start of the London 2012 Paralympics, as somewhat unbelievably sponsored by ATOS, the company responsible for stopping disability benefits for thousands of people in the UK, and causing widespread severe suffering. Campaigning group Disabled People Against the Cuts have a week of actions planned for ‘The ATOS Games’ so click here to see if there are any events near you.
NEXT WEEK: Should feminism be taught in schools?
- This is a question we’ve been asked a few times now, and since it’ll be the first week back to school for many people in the UK we thought it was the right time to answer.
THE WEEK AFTER: How to find support/other feminists
- Another question we get asked a lot, and this time coming off the back of everything we’ll have learnt at the UK Feminista Summer School in Bristol, which you can click here to join us at.
As ever if you’d like to submit a guest video on these or any other topic then let us know and click here for more info on how to submit.
Oh and apologies again for the distinct lack of videos this week, hopefully next week will be better. - Becca x
[First image shows a group of disabled women protesting, holding banners reading, “support for mums with disabilities equal rights equal opportunities”, “I’m a mother first”, and “recognition for disabled mothers NOT sterilisation”. The image is from the DPAC website.
Second image shows a blurred out angled photo of a dictionary entry for feminism. This seems to be quite a popular image around the web but if anyone knows the source please let me know.
Third image shows a black and white illustration of a woman looking thoughtful with the caption “I’m a Feminist, now what?” Again I’ve seen this image around a lot but have no idea of the original source. If anyone knows it I’ll add it in here.]
