Alright, I gathered a few helpful graphics for sex, gender, expression, sexuality, and orientation. A quick description of each:

1) This is probably one of the most helpful diagram’s I’ve ever seen on sexuality and orientation. It may not cover everyone, but for a comprehensive diagram, it does a pretty good job. I marvel at whoever made it.

2) The “Wibbly Wobbly” model. The most accurate portrayal yet of all the different possible combinations of sex, gender, expression, and orientation. Of course, it’s incomprehensible because, well, sex, gender, orientation, and expression are never neat and easily represented. 

3) The GenderBread person 2.0. You may have seen the GenderBread person with the sliding scale, and it was alright, but the sliding scale method of representing gender, sex, expression, and orientation still relies on binary 2D thinking. This model is a lot more inclusive because it contain at least 4 dimensions of identity (non-gendered, masculine, feminine, and multi-gender). On top of that, you can still mix and match between gender, sex, orientation, and expression. 

4) A helpful Venn Diagram from the interdependence of assigned sex, gender identity, gender expresion, gender role, and sexual orientation. 

5) Last but not least, a simple diagram of polyamorous relationships. This is mostly a joke for my fellow poly folks. :)

So I saw “Snow White and the Huntsman” twice this week, and now I’m going to talk about the disappointing development of the virgin/whore dichotomy in its story.

I think to some people this is a big, messy, grey world but at least there are some sharp distinctions, like the distinctions between gender and sexual orientation and those are just lines that should always be hard lines. But saying that simplicity is natural is idiotic because the most natural thing in the world is complexity, and gender and sexual orientation are proven over and over again to not be firm lines. The whole world is grey and if you just appreciate that, if you just understand and appreciate that, it’s beautiful.

Tory MEPs vote for gender identity to be on list of mental and behavioural disorders »

Tory MEPs have voted against the withdrawal of gender identity from the the International Classification of Diseases’s list of mental and behavioural disorders.

Daniel Hannan and Nirj Deva voted alongside the likes of the BNP’s Nick Griffin and Andrew Brons in opposing Labour MEP Richard Howitt’s amendment to human rights legislation, with other Tories abstaining.

The amendment was passed; 353 votes to 268 (52 abstentions).

Among other things, it:

  • Calls on the Commission to advocate the withdrawal of gender identity from the list of mental and behavioural disorders in the negotiations on the 11th version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and to seek a non-pathologising reclassification;
  • Reiterates its request that the Commission produce a comprehensive roadmap against homophobia, transphobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, also addressing human rights violations on these grounds in the world;
  • Reasserts that the principle of non-discrimination, also embracing grounds of sex and sexual orientation, must not be compromised in the ACP-EU partnership;
  • Calls on the Member States to grant asylum to people fleeing persecution in countries where LGBT people are criminalised, taking into consideration applicants’ well founded fears of persecution, and relying on their self-identification as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
